Prof. Miroslav Mašláň
Miroslav Mašláň (6 May 1957) graduated in nuclear physics from the Faculty of Physics of Belarus State University in Minsk in 1982. In 1986, he earned the CSc. degree (equivalent to Ph.D.) at the Institute of Applied Physics of Belarus Academy of Science (Minsk), for his work on „Non-destructive control method of surfaces by conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy“. He spent his entire subsequent professional life at Palacký University in Olomouc. He habilitated in 1994 at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University, and in 2002 was appointed Professor of Applied Physics.
He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator of numerous projects funded by the Czech Science Foundation, Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. From 2005 to 2010, he was Head of Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials, and from 2007 to 2010 he served as Head of the Department of Experimental Physics. Between 2000 and 2006 and 2014 and 2018, he served as Vice-Rector of Palacký University, during which time, amongst other things, he initiated the establishment of the university’s Science and Technology Park. From 2010 to 2014, he held the post of Rector of Palacký University.
In 1992, he introduced a new research direction at Palacky University based on nuclear resonance fluorescence (Mössbauer effect). His research and teaching activities focus on Mössbauer spectroscopy and its applications in material science, mineralogy and chemistry, methodology of Mössbauer measurements, design of spectrometers in the field of X-rays and gamma rays. For many years, he lectured students on atomic and nuclear physics. He is the author or co-author of more than 130 original research articles indexed in the Web of Science, with over 2,300 citations and an h-index of 22. Under his supervision, 19 students successfully defended their doctoral theses. He supervised more than 40 master’s and bachelor’s theses.
